Possible plot devices  The call of power During encounters with people who had misused the Dark Star, turning themselves into monsters, a "shadow" seems to escape from the body and the person returns to their natural state, the shadows bind themselves to the closest living thing not created by the Dark Star, more than often being Kiro, this gives him more power but leaves a trace of the ones "possessed" person's desires on the new wielder, more than often causing a craving for more power.   Magic's ties   energy for using magic does not necessarily have to come from the caster, others can bind their energy to others, the more influence/allies the group gets by helping people in various ways causes them to get more power, this device is a somewhat obvious metaphor for cooperation accomplishing great things. Regions of the world (world building) Duneford: Duneford consists of large city's of high rising buildings, each walled of to keep the classes separated, the city's range from Futuristic metropolis to Industrial wasteland with most never transitioning from one city to another. the ruling company of Duneford is Dineima who have a monopoly on oil and with they're huge power plants often provides power to other regions establishing them as currently the greatest world power. Inter Group interaction's and character arcs one of the main themes of this series is Friendship (sounds mushy but stay with me here) but its not like the usual friendships in films/series, the character's over the course of the series change and subsequently change the friendship, times get tough conflict ensues, one of the Key things that will show this is how the characters act outside of the group. Kiro's Critical-ness and judgment of other's will lead him to judge who he saves, Darcy finds out about the "mission" Kiro did by himself during there time in bolo, that being, Killing the man who gave him the Scar under his eye as a child, when he was 7 his mother was robbed with him held hostage, and even after the criminal got what he wanted, what he wanted changed to a power fantasy, leaving Kiro with a Scar and taunting him by saying he lives in Bolo if he wants revenge, (purposeless evil) to Remember him by, Kiro doesn't believe evil people can

final colours (for now) and Character Stuff i think that ive got a good level of contrasting colours, colour to personality connection and group look for now. i think that each also look like there working in the jobs they have acquired. im currently thinking about the rolls each of the characters fill, there i a common method used in film/series which is called the five man band, this is where each of the main characters, even if there isnt five, fills one or multiple roll's within the group, i dont want to follow this to directly however as not to be generic but its something to think about. the Archetypes are: The Leader: the level headed, most well rounded character of the team, often seen as the protagonist because of this, he organizes the groups strengths and resultingly they themselves fall short on anything unique other than leadership. Darcy pose sheet and new character colours pose sheet for Darcy, attempting to show his "weird" personality, may make more poses for each of the characters in the future to show a greater range of there personality, also group interaction poses to show the sort of friendship they share     new versions of the characters colours, ash looks more like a "main character" and Kiro looks more military but now i think the characters dont look like a group, primarily Kiro with significantly darker colours than the others. 

Character pose sheets/ first colour draft  new clothing design poses for Ash, showing some of her character and what her occupation is, im thinking of sticking with the name shiftier for delivery workers and they all wear the same jacket ash does.    poses of Kiro, one of which showing his magic casting, the magic draws from both the knowledge and tenacity of the caster, the veins on his arms up to his neck darken and bulge due to the huge strain it causes.  examples of over-straining magic, from top left to right, the first is when attempting to heal a huge wound, causing the same wound to appear on the healer, the second is frost/cold magic, freezing the skin and slowing the blood, the third is illusion magic, but with this the visions come from the mind much like how the caster had manipulated the mind of the "victim", the forth is prolonged use of magic drawing more energy instead of causing a chaotic effect, shriveling the skin, the next is electricity, lines

New concept art  the group have changed the premise to being more about "realistic homelessness in new zealand " and having a younger main character, doing some research on the homeless in NZ i have created new concepts for a younger main character, the other key point is that this character uses music to "escape" from the real world so the headphones are emphasised in these designs.  

Character Designs  fixed the blocky hair ash and Kiro had and added extra details to darcy to show that mechanic/tinkerer occupation, these will be the final designs and i will do these poses specifically in colour and then adding the character description next to the individuals and have that printed for the 1st exposition on the 29th of march other story idea's  obviously Kiro's sudden leaving from his military training is meet with harsher consequences that the other two, to abandon the military in this world is seen as unpatriotic, and when the government, education system and military are all owned by the same group, and that group has manipulated the minds of its people under there rule to see that as criminal , this puts Kiro in a difficult situation whenever in helmscroft. the previously described killer who drives the main characters out of helmscroft was created only to live shortly after his roll was complete, i may have a sub-story to how he has been crea

New character designs   new version's of the characters, Darcy's face has changed somewhat to fit his personality and now the characters are being designed to fit there occupation they are working in after the education system fell, Ash works in delivery, Darcy works with mechanics and Kiro was training for the military. im think of adding more features to darcy that show this in future renditions. aslo i will do the hair again for Kiro and Ash as it is to "blocky"

Character pose sheet test  another part to representing the characters personality is to do so visually, so im creating pose sheets for each of the characters to help show that, after creating this test however i decided upon another design for ash that makes her look more like a delivery person, also thinking of comming up with diffrent names for the occupations the characters work in Eg: delivery people are called shifters, mechanics are called metal heads or something along those lines   

Test Character designs     first design  i started of with a test design of Kiro to get a general sense of the style i wanted the characters to look like but after some consideration i didn't think this was what i wanted, also the outlines where to thick for this sort of character. second designs  left to right:Ash, Kiro, Darcy  these are the new/ redone designs for the three main characters, i have limited the amount of detail the characters will have due to the fact i will have to animate them on my own, im thinking of redoing Darcy to look more like a goofy sort of character and changing ashes design 

Dark Star main characters at the moment i have three main characters, however this number might change when i find out animating three main characters is gonna take to long, the characters names havent changed since the last post but i have more ideas about what thyre personalitys will be like, one of these aspect's include the characters ideology's, as they can often come to conflict. Kiro: critical of everyone, quick to angry and petty, however this is contrasted when he thinks someone (in his mind) is good, his tenacity to help/save with deserving people is unrivaled but his criteria is very strict. his "kinder" character shows when around his friends, often jabbing at them insultingly in a way friends who know each other would. Dark Star series concept  currently im working on a concept for a animated 2d adventure series that's working title is "Dark Star" the general premise is a group of friends trying to get control of their lifes after discovering a plot to manipulate them into someone elses vision for their own unknown purpose.  the three main characters are currently called Kiro, Darcy and Ash (short for Ashley) a group of friends who live in a plutocracy ran regin known as Helmscroft who's ruling company called Caliber has recently closed its schools forcing the characters to get jobs, along with this Kiro's father, a researcher at Caliber has disappeared and the Group decided to investigate, with some bribing from Kiro. what they discover in the research facility is an investigation into something called the dark star and its many uses, one of which being the creation of human life in your own design, however this leave's the creation with a "birthmark" a dark

First concept art  the story concept that the group voted upon is about a homeless man(or possibly woman, but more likely the latter) who shelters himself in a cardboard box and imagens a better world. i am working on the concept art team and have made several renditions of what the characters design could be. the general idea i have been given to work with is that he is a elderly man and since he lives in a cardboard box wears allot of layers and/or thick clothes.

short film concept the first part of the group project is deciding upon the short film concept, previously we decided we will make a live action film with animated elements so that everyone can have a hand in the production that is already what they are proficient in. what was decided was that people with ideas bring them in to be voted upon and include a mood board, however i took liberties with is as my premiss is made only in one location,and is a comedy there was also another concept for a short film but the concept would likely be very difficult to pull of Based off the “joke” there's a fly in my soup, a chief who has been tormented by this “joke” has finally gotten back on his feet and tonight he has a food critic at his restaurant, who orders the soup, once prepared the chief takes one last look out the kitchen window at the critic hidden behind the menu, then when he turns back he sees a fly on the edge of the soup bowl, this triggers a horrifying (exaggerated) fl
