BSA 206 British new wave

British new wave

British new wave was a film movement stared by a group of film makers who struggled to get their films shown in commercial circuits and wanted to make films without the restrictions that come with government funding, an example of this is the film funded couldn't have violent or anti government themes, these films where based on more realistic events and people often involving aggressive young males, this movement was also called the free cinema manifesto due to it freeing the restrictions most films encounter.

themes these films used

  • alcoholism
  • broken marriages
  • violence
  •  adultery
  • the generational gap
  • loneliness
  • unwanted pregnancy's
  • racism
  • working class citizens

its influence on modern films its that realism and the lives of regular people are plausible in creating a film, also it is possible to create films that dont need outside funding and allow for creative freedom.
