stop motion blog report 3
we have finished building sets, things such as these where done by me
- creating buildings out of cardboard boxes, adding roofs, window holes for lighting and gluing a building like texture onto those said boxes
- grass attached to the hill was made via a hot glue gun and some plastic/fake grass i had found in the working area
- metal under grass/ ground was added so the magician can climb the hill (has magnets in his shoes)
- window holes for lighting were made simply by measuring/estimating the angle the light would come from and using a pocketknife cutting out two holes, one leading to the verandas and another, a higher one at the back, to created the effect of indoor lighting coming down onto the street.
- seating made via cutting out polystyrene blocks into seat shapes, based on the original t pose drawings of the characters that where to sit in them, so that they would fit/i measured the relative knee and sitting pose highs of the characters. then i added seating like material and cushioning.
- floors, made via cutting out large squares of wood with a powered saw, and pieces of material to match them, and gluing them onto the wood squares to have all the set objects attached on-top of
- verandas where made with cardboard, cutting out a floor, support and edges and gluing them onto the sides of the buildings.
and i also helped with
- making the raised stage floor, adding the embellishments
- making the hill, via having a wood square base which was left over after cutting out the other floors and adding the sack floor material
- painting part of the tree in the final scene
Chris finished the characters and i fired them in the oven, there was a complication however, due to the thinness of the characters pointed noses, the tips got singed, but we are planing to paint over the entire face so this shouldn't be a problem.
Ive also created costumes for the characters via cutting out pieces of clothing based of relative measurement the characters body and then gluing them on top of them, then adding embellishments such as buttons, badges, hats etc.
we now have moved to the shooting area
