stop motion blog report 5

film editing we have now finished shooting the film and i got the job of editing this film since i was the only one willing, this consisted of splicing all the scenes together, editing the speeds they play at, creating freeze frames to indicate particular or exaggerate certain things, creating additional camera movements, creating transitions via the key frame and opacity tool, adding motion blur to indicate speed, adding a title, credits and sounds all done in after effects. after doing this i found that the film went for one minute and 30 secs, which was relatively the perfect length for the assessment.   sound editing i also decided to add sounds to the stop motion, i used almost only sound effects that sit already had except for the classic DUN DUN DUUUN sound that i got off YouTube and referenced in the credits, this process was pretty much the same as the film editing besides changing the audio levels to suit the scenes.

stopmotion blog report 4

shooting stage we have set up our first set on top of two tables pushed together as to not hurt ourselves by staying on our knees for hours on end whilst shooting. also since there are black paper walks surrounding our sets set up, i found out we could use that to our advantage, originally we would have to have opened and closed the walls of the set each time we moved the characters , which would have taken a very long to do, but instead we moved the set next to it but leaving a gap so i could fit in and change the poses of the characters between frames, then altered the lighting as to make it appear to be a backing to the stage/ have less shadows, saving us allot of time. character posing we have decided that i would pose/animate the characters while Chris would operate the camera and also see in there was to fast of a movement between frames. To my benefit I did the actions the characters would do myself, just to get the idea of the relative movements in a single scene/ series

stop motion blog report 3

we have finished building sets, things such as these where done by me  creating buildings out of cardboard boxes, adding roofs, window holes for lighting and gluing a building like texture onto those said boxes   grass attached to the hill was made via a hot glue gun and some plastic/fake grass i had found in the working area    metal under grass/ ground was added so the magician can climb the hill (has magnets in his shoes) window holes for lighting were made simply by measuring/estimating the angle the light would come from and using a pocketknife cutting out two holes, one leading to the verandas and another, a higher one at the back, to created the effect of indoor lighting coming down onto the street.   seating made via cutting out polystyrene blocks into seat shapes, based on the original t pose drawings of the characters that where to sit in them, so that they would fit/i measured the relative knee and sitting pose highs of the characters. then i added seating like mate

BSA 106 disturbing scenes

Image
disturbing scenes i recall from childhood and now female gremlin elevator scene, this was at a young age, however it still comes across as disturbing to, this, day. im not sure if it was suppose to be funny and whoever had that idea should have been exiled from the film industry, he was clearly too attached to this series. mashed up toys from toy story, at the time this was like a horror film, just the idea that not only toys are alive, and have emotions and then having them torn apart and turned into  monster's for eternity, scolded by those that once loved them... being a over analyst as a kid will mess you up for sure. now firz the cat, all i can say is the cringe was to strong, even if the characters in this animated film where human it will still be sickening to the core, no exaggeration at all, and this was made in 1972, how did this happen you might ask? im not religious but it was clearly Satan.

BVA106 La Jetee

Image
La Jetee this film from 1962 made by Chris Marker was a unusual story told through narration and a series of pictures, a alternate history were world war 3 had occurred and a man has to "travel through time" to fix the now destroyed world, i thought this film was interesting in a way but it was very slow, the story could have been summed up far quicker, but for the time it was made perhaps people had more patients, the story is were the film excels at most since it was very low budget explaining the film being told through pictures, however that is not to say its a great story, as i said it could be summed up far quicker, also the unusual attachment to the woman he saw as a child seems illogical but does support the ending twist which i wasn't in-fact expecting until just before it happens, which was entertaining. this influence several other films such as 12 monkeys, terminator and was influenced by Alfred Hitchcock

BSA 106 Sequels

Sequels my opinion on sequels sequels  are only ok if they are both pre-planed and each film ends on a satisfying ending, not cliffhangers that only hold your interest and anticipation for (at most) a week, then the you realize the film just stopped so they could try make more money of you later on. AKA they have to be good films on there own, outside of the series.   example of bad sequels hood winked 2, Indiana Jones and the kingdom of the crystal skull, all horror films (as far as im aware)   example of good sequels  Indiana Jones temple of doom, last crusade, star wars trilogy

BVA 106 Satiemania

Image
Satiemania by zdenko gasparovich a 1978 somewhat surrealist short film consisting of hand drawn animation and music playing throughout it describes itself as  The film is based upon the music of Eric Satie. The fauna of the megalopolis, the jungle of the super-market, the bedlam of brothels and bars, the effects of the bars in fog, the swaying ears of corn, the swaying of men hanging from the gallows, the ripple of water -seen by the eye of the animator in harmony and conflict, accompanied by the satirical, mocking, but sometimes pure lyrical music of Eric Satie.   what i believe it was trying to communicate to be honest i couldn't interpret what this film was trying to communicate, i believe infact that this is more of a interpretive film, where you put your own meanings onto it.

BSA 106 reboots

Image
reboots, examples of the good and the bad bad reboot's: Godzilla 1998, tmnt 2014 these films clearly dont care about the sourse materail they come from and likely where only made for a quick cash grab by manipulating the audiance into thinking it will be like it once was. good reboot's: batman films, tintin film not only are these films true to the sourse materail, they also has addapted it into new styles that where done with care, not to destroy what people liked about the originals. what should be rebooted? its impossible to say, unless i am aware beforehand that the film was going to be what i wanted, and if thats the case i would like a good Godzilla remake, im aware there is a new one, but it can hardly be called a Godzilla movie, since it only has something like 12 min of actual Godzilla, thats not to say it wasnt a bad movie, it just wasnt a Godzilla one.

BSA 106 Sad moments in film

Image
sad stuff from films in my past Pokemon, the first movie  ash's "death" probably the first "death" i had ever seen on film where it seemed like the character was actually gone, of course now i can see through things like this knowing that main characters tend to never die. it was made all the more sad because i followed the tv series i knew the characters and that most adventures they when on were comical but now its suddenly serious, at lest somewhat. the iron giant this film makes the iron giant very human like, but not just human, Innocent and child like too and for a child (even if not a gigantic robot) made the character relatable, and for any character that is relatable.

water ship down director and year it was made: Martin Rosen in 1987 what it was based on- the novel water ship down by Richard Adams published in 1972 my review for its time, and even till now the theme of a dark world for anthropomorphic animals is rarely used and has a unusual contrast when you often see films with humanized animals to be family friendly an lighthearted, creating a interesting experience, i found myself being compelled to watch not for the gore but the story was interesting and the contrast i mentioned was entertaining to see .themes a dark world for anthropomorphic animals, times of war, proficiency and religion  .would i recommend? if you can handle dark themes and like new experiences in film ,yes
Image
the wall year of film: 1982 directors, Alan Parker: Gerald Scarfe animation director: Gerald Scarfe who wrote the screen play: Roger Waters the wall is a film about the downfall of a man into insanity, caused by events in his life that twisted him into a hateful person, events such as his father dieing at war, his mothers neglect, the education system, his teachers mockery, his girlfriends cheating and drug abuse making him repress society and attempt creating his own idea of a utopia (symbolizing Nazi/Neo-Nazis) the key concept i believe the film was attempting to represent was how society's influences can mold someone into depression and hatred for society, "another brick in the wall" is often repeated in the film which can represent another action/thing that causes the main character to hate society more. the film uses disturbing imagery to convey the emotions that the main character is having, to the point where the audience empathizes and/or is disgusted b

Robocop BSA 106

Image
Robocop director Paul Verhoeven other films directed:total recall 1990, starship troopers 1997, black book 2006 release date or Robocop: 1987 main themes of Robocop a film about both revenge and Justice, taken in a over the top violent way (originally intended to be like a new-age Jesus Christ) in a future where crime runs rampant in new Detroit (somewhat sci-fi) does the film hold up over time? this can be said to be very subjective, since the answer is different to everybody, but overall id say it somewhat does, the humor is clearly older but still enjoyable, and the over the top action is still being talked about today, the fact that it became a cult classic goes to show that it can hold up over time. my opinion on the film as i said the film still has its moments with its humor, and the general concept was, and still is new/ not over used and interesting, not to mention the gore is pretty much what you see today in action films and sometimes worst/ better depending
