Dark Star part 22

new character designs: outlines  Darcy: still maintaining a mechanic/tinkerer aesthetic, but (from my perspective) more representative of that. this design was also made whilst keeping in mind of what the job requires for protection (other than goggles i may add later) and other things like carrying small tools on your person, the cloth around Darcys neck can be pulled up and is thick enough to protect the face. better seen when in colour but there is a metal-patchwork plate over the left side of darcys chest, just enough to protect the heart and metal caps on the knees as he is on them often    Gideon: what i was attempting with this redesign was to have hints of law enforcement/military but still look like more regular clothing, Gideon was in training to be a law enforcer before the events causing him to leave Helmscroft. Ash: not to much has changed with ash's costume design but she has added features that are the general design of shifters (delivery people) in the

Character Expression sheets: outlines Gideon: with this redesign of gideon i wanted to maintain a teenage appearance, or even make it more apparent but still have his personality somewhat apparent, purely from his visual appearance.        Darcy: with this redesign of Darcy i wanted to try and express his "childishness" he visually looks younger than the other 2 protagonist but is in fact the same age.   Ash: Ash's redesign was both to suit the new designs of the other characters and was another attempt of drawing a better female character, something i'm becoming more adept at after a long time of not drawing many girls, or even making animated characters with faces period, rather than a mask/helmet/robot face etc.

History of the Grimvaul Empire (lore development) The Grimvaul Empire was shaped into what it is today by two key events in history, the extinction of magic and the new world order. Extinction of Magic Magic was always seen as a taboo in Grimvaul, rumors of cruelty and maniacal plotting had spread about its users for years, every instance of a magic wielder defending themselves was seen as a terroristic act to further their plans, preforming magic in public areas was forbidden, not by law but by people’s beliefs, when tensions where raised after a township was destroyed, believed to be another act of magic terrorism and the governing forces not siding with the general public’s opinion, the citizens took control into their own hands, militias actively burning books and killing anyone known to have used magic, all done under the facade of equality, but in actuality caused by the long term dehumanization and fear of magic wielders. Over the course of 47 years, magic not only a

development of the empire of Grimvaul/ world building  Regions of the Empire  Duneford: The metropolitan expanse of Duneford is segregated into four districts, each large enough to be their own region, all are ruled under one governing force and each district, and the citizens who reside they're serves a role, citizens in district one refer to themselves as the elite, live in excess luxury and wealth and are tasked with the management of lower districts, inter-regional negotiations and trade, high stasis factory workers, politicians and other roles of the kind. District two significantly differs from district one, its buildings reach taller but are overfilled, most citizens from district 2 work in medial jobs, military and factory’s from a very young age, there has never been a problem with this as the buildings rise high enough to see the less fortunate districts. District three is plagued with barren, lead-filled land that impends on the citizen's health, this

Random notes on the Dark Star series development part 5 first concept of the worlds history back when it was called ceribis this was a very brief concept i came up with that has been far more developed (see later posts for that) Once there was many magic wielders but ??? Using a front of equality and backed by the fear of their power got a huge militia to work for a common goal, they hunted down the magic users and burned “all” knowledge of casting magic. Without the nomadic magic users those with money had free rein to start there control, splitting the world into sections on a agreement. Random ideas i had: All parts of the dark star must be brought together to create the desired effect this included the expended pages used to create the three main characters, the hunter and Nil (this is still in the current version of the story) Darcy gets into the research facility just by asking “hey you don’t mind if I just get something I need from in they're” “ umm ok” this j

Random notes on the Dark Star series development part 4 First concepts for episode springboard, really ruff and once again made for myself in the development process, not reeeellly meant for others to see but i need them blog posts to pass. Ep 1 springboard Character introductions, followed by how they heard of the dark star, all hear it from the same suspicious individual  All three characters don’t know each other, and are investigating the same thing, the rumours of a Dark Star and are looking for it for their own reasons, meeting for the first time in a three way battle before recognising each other from school, together they find out about the hunter, killing the line of creations from the previous dark star wieldier, and that they are those creations  Suspicious of manipulation (whether it was to get them all to kill each other or get attack once finding the dark star) The characters find that its best to stick together and head to bolo, last known direction

Random notes on the Dark Star series development part 3 first random idea for the pieces of the dark star: The pieces of the dark star are seemingly misalliance items, the first being a book that when written into creates a person or being of the description, however when used with the right aptitude inflicts the creation to form from the creator, in which the borrowers (what thiefs from bolo call themselves) from bolo where turned into the monster that they had planned to send upon the village. (probably the only one that in certain of, after some workshoping) (also the storyline of the borrowers from bolo has changed btw) The second is a pair of glasses that when worn allow you to see the current plausible future(what the future would be if you didn't look into the future), once used the future changes,  the outcome however. When used without the aptitude to wear, a vision of a false future is shown, often sealing one's fate. The third is a key that when held as if to

Random notes on the Dark Star series development part 2 Misolanice Notes: To wield the dark star you must be tested to been worthy of it, if not you open “Pandora's box” upon yourself Big Bad is hinted at in the found research notes, he will attempt to use the darkstar to rule the world, team knows they have to go after the Dark Star to stop this (why?) he sent the hunter on them Dark star is made up of 5 pieces, each with a different power and when all together do… The hole intro was a set up, the hunter was made by the same person as the three, to force them out of helmscroft and make them to get all the pieces The characters meet the “acolyte” of the dark star who tries to get them to continue in a time of hardship, giving them knowledge and inspiration (don't recall why i added this, very vague and needed to be developed further) intro concept: The beginning shows the 3 protags being created by the piece of the dark star as young children by the original

Random notes on Dark Star's development part of creating this series concept was that i wrote a large amount of random concepts and ideas that came to mind into a powerpoint document. in order of when these were written, for context this will be the first of several posts, most notes in brackets are for future explanations of what's going on that i didn't need to explain to myself.  Random development notes part 1:  new introduction/ pilot episode concept All three characters don’t know each other, and were investigating the same thing rumours of the dark star, for their own reasons. meeting for the first time in a three way battle before recognising each other from school before it closed down, recognising that they aren't the guards of the facility their investigating, together they find out about the hunter, killing the line of creations from the previous dark star wieldier. The characters find that its best to stick together and head to bolo, last known

Animation's : part 1  a issue that was looked over in the production of this short film was what the animation was going to look like, there were some conceptual designs but they were "still images" and had no indication of what the movement was supposed to look like, i decided to make animations to show to the director/ art director to get an idea of whether that animation style was wanted.  the first idea i had in my mind, based of the general idea i picked up on through group meetings, was to animate the colours like bubbles or balloons when the air is let out of them. to get the colourful spectrum that's supposed to represent the escape from reality, and to have it so the compositors can work with it, i've made the animation overlap with is inverted self and had the two be in contrasting colours, rather than rendering out each version of colour combinations, after effects has the function to hue shift the animations, resulting in as many colou

Baraka

Image
Baraka Baraka is a 1992 no-dialog film directed by Ron Fricke, the film consists of a variety shots of varying things, the most frequent to appear are shots of different cultures and religions preforming their traditions, in which the film can be seen to have a message/purpose of showing the lengths of human diversity, the cultures shown vary from native tribes to minimum wage/slave labor workers doing repetitive tasks.  my opinion: the use of no dialog using no dialog in a film can ether support the story/message or hinder it depending on said story/message and the general tone, Baraka suits not having dialogue as what can be said is done so through visuals and music but other films have used the technique to falsify artistic value, much like using black and white film with no purpose. i would recommend this film, but only to certain people as the purpose would be loss on them. there also was the "squeal" to baraka, Samsara, however less successful.
