Fantasy Film Genre  Because fantasy is a large and unspecific genre I have split it into three characters. This is the most common genre to have popular female characters or human like species characters, excluding animation. •     Popular fantasy female characters tend to be outcasts and/or breaking the concepts of gender roles (can be based on the time zones the film is set in) in one way or another eg : Hermine granger, Alice from Alice in wonderland, Eowyn from Lord of the Rings, Arya stark and  Daenerys Targaryen from game of thrones . Characters in this category have a tendency to be young/ younger than other characters in the film •     Popular male fantasy characters tend to be leaders or/and wise but can and will fight just as if he was another soldier/warrior eg : Aragon and Gandalf from Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter and Dumbledore (at points in the film series) Darth Vader from Star Wars (sci-fi fantasy) characters have a tendency to be older than most chara

Drama Film Genre This genre is less common to follow any architypes, characters often experience negative scenarios such as mental illness, violence, drug abuse, crime, grief   Most of the iconic characters from this genre are involved in, or effected by organised crime like gangs, and that is what the storyline revolves around Films in this genre, more recently have been diverging from organised crime, but have not created more notable characters than those in the past, excluding Jay Gatsby (from The Great Gatsby, the 2013, however it is a remake). 

horror film genre •        The most popular characters are nearly if not always the villains/ antagonists All of the most iconic characters are male or not human. Characters have power and control over nearly all situations Victims are often archetypes of unlikable character’s (whether on purpose or not) and make bad decisions (based on the knowledge of the audience) that make them un-relatable and therefor disposable. Villains do whatever they want often without repercussions, and if there are any, such as “dyeing” or being imprisoned they simply will escape and/or come back again Villains in this genre are also the most common to “win” Characters vary from being very intelligent (Hannibal Lecter) to the opposite (Jason Voorhees)

Action Film Genre  1 action character is based on characters that’s popularity has been sustained for a long time (longevity of popularity) and the other is recent popularity, I'm doing this because most action characters have short life's in relevancy and its undeterminable if these new action characters will continue to be more popular than those in the past • One will be a Superhero, however since I am basing it of the films instead of the comics I will be factoring the films popularity more than the individual character’s popularity, this is an attempt to avoid the personality's and physical appearances that can differ in the source material I’m working with.    Superhero films are currently all-around the most popular action genre films and are more so when excluding those that are multi genre films, action/other genres    the action genre on average is the highest grossing film genre

Adventure Film Genre  Since “adventure” is often a sub-genre in films I have been excluding thoughts that aren’t really adventure films in its purest sense eg: Bat Man films have an adventure sub-genre but would not be called as such Popular characters in this genre have no restrictions on where they go or what they do, often only caring about themselves till some form of reconciliation Characters tend to be fearless in situations that would scare most people, but some popular characters in this genre are afraid of common or irregular things, eg: Jack Sparrow running out of rum or Indiana Jones and snakes (for an adventurer)  

Comedy Film Genre  Comedy characters often work in pairs and have conflicting personality's One tends to be sly, charismatic, dumb, unnaturally successful or a combination of these  And the other tends to fail, be over (and in some cases under) emotional, can often be smart but sometimes dumb (not more than their counter part) or a combination of these factors Most common/popular profession in popular comedy films is law enforcement Most comedy film characters have regular professions but are irregular people, so other than how they act they look like regular people, such as I portrayed in these characters

Family Friendly/Animated Genre Animated films and characters from those films are the most popular in the family friendly Genre A large percentage of the most popular and iconic animated characters are animals with some human features and personality traits, (anthropomorphism) Characters have an affinity to be friends with nearly all people/animals, even if predatory Popular human animated characters in this genre have somewhat recently became more divergent on their culture and race and due to Disney’s trend setting protagonists tend to be young females.

Visual Diary Entry for BSA This visual diary is made to describe the process that was involved in creating the exhibit work for the south sure emerging artist event Key question Over the course of my research and character creating the key question has changed to suit, both in undesirability and to be able to complete it within the time restraints. Originally my question was  What is more important in a film character, relatability or desirability (what the audience/viewer wants to be like, or ideals of perfection are).
