Group project part 5

Concept art: Design colours  the last part to the character concept art was to decide upon the colour design, there isn't a "generalised" colour/colour's that homeless people in new zealand wear so i made a array of colour designs based of individuals that have been in news articles for being homeless to get the general idea across. i did these colour design concepts on the final character design choice.

Hair designs another part of the concept art that was wanted to help develop the main character is the hair designs, with my research on the generalised new zealand homeless look, that being often not recognisable as homeless, especially with the younger people often overlooked as being part of the homeless problem, i have created theses designs for what the characters hair could look like based of what i found.

Loving Vincent Loving Vincent is the first every fully painted feature film, the story revolves around the aftermath and mystery to Vincent Van Gogh's suicide, to have the film be done in oil painting animation multiple film techniques where implemented to maintain coherency and still remain faithful to the stylings of Van Gogh's paintings. actors where selected that appeared like they could be the people in Vincent's portrait paintings, then where "rotoscoped" but with a large team of oil painters. 3d animation software was used to create the environment and then was also painted over.

Colour use in film

Colour use in film many film makers use colour association to work underlining messages into their works, using perceived notions such as red symbolizing anger or passion, or alternativlty creating a link between events or characters and the colours that are seen when they are prevalent, an example of this is in the film The Great Gatsby,  in the great Gatsby, desire is represented by green, such as the light across the water that Mr Gatsby knows is from the house where the girl he loves lives with her husband. the  "valley of ashes" is gray and colourless due to the lifeless, industrial and inescapablenss for those who are there. yellow and black are used frequently for luxury and greed, red, which the girl who Gatsby commits adultery with, is maliciousness and selfishness.

Film makers

Film makers  Robert Rodriguez Robert Rodriguez is a effective and creative film maker, he uses non traditional methods to be both cost and time effective in film production, some of these techniques include filming one characters entire scene actions and dialogue in one cut but shifting the cameras position, and in post cutting the scene in such a way it appears to have been made with a bigger production value with multiple cameras Richard Linklater Richard Linklater is well known for his realistic, often described as humanist film's, the best example of this is his film Boyhood, a long running project that uses the same actors from begining to end, following the characters actually aging form children to adults or adults to "elderly".  Richard Linklater method is low budget high concept and he pulls it of to great success.

World of tomorrow  world of tomorrow is a animated short film created by Don Hertzfeldt, in which the main character Emily, a young girl is meet by her future self (3rd generation clone), her future self shares what life is like over 200 years in the future, however the Emily in the present is to young to understand and the one of the future suffers from "clone degeneration" and doesn't understand this. World of tomorrow explores a depressive future in a comedic way, its simplistic, child like animation style complements the perspective of the child as well as contrasting the existential crisis the clone has, making for a very funny short film

Film techniques 2

film techniques - camera options  recording all footage on cellphone's - example: Tangerine this technique gives the film a different visual impression, allowing for ease of movement and other opportunity's for camera techniques, however the video quality is naturally lower than more professional devices, but that can inherently enhance the tone of the film such as in Tangerine where the low budget devices make sense. recording all footage from drones - example: in the robot skies filming with drones isnt a new filming technique but in "in the robot skies" the entire film is done through this giving it a outsiders perspective feeling, never getting close like in most films to highlight emotions and relationships between characters.
