Georges Melies 1861-1938 was a french magician that became a film maker, made known for his innovative cinematic techniques that revolutionized the future of film.




he was the first film maker to use-

substitution splice: were the film is cut and aspects of the scene are added, moved or removed before the film starts again to give the illusion of a special effect.

multiple exposure: two images overlapping each-other simultaneity in varying ways

time-lapse: the increased frequency of frames that the  film plays at to have the effect of time passing faster.

dissolve: the fade-in and fade-out effect when transitioning between scenes, one scene increases in transparency and the other appears behind it.

these techniques that were created and popularized by Georges have appeared frequently in films form there invention even leading to today modern film making.
