2 examples of copyright infringement cases

1. the hangover-part two

this case began out of a minor detail within the film, Stu's (ed helms) face tattoo resembling that of mike Tyson's however the original designer of the tattoo believed this was infringing on his right to own his creation as it was specifically designed for mike Tyson and him alone, the lawsuit nearly effected the release of the film as it would have to be digitally removed from all the scenes that showed it (most of the film) however in the end the case was settled by the production company, Warner bros for a undisclosed amount of money.

2. ghost busters theme

this case was a dispute over whether the ghost buster theme tune made by ray Parker Jr was a direct knock off of Huey Lewis's song "i want a new drug" primarily its bass line and guitar rift within the song, the dispute ended with Huey winning five million dollars.however this didn't appease Huey as see on Behind the Music were he was quoted saying “The offensive part was not so much that Ray Parker Jr. had ripped this song off, it was kind of symbolic of an industry that wants something — they wanted our wave, and they wanted to buy it. …it’s not for sale. … In the end, I suppose they were right. I suppose it was for sale, because, basically, they bought it.”
