BSA 106 Conventions of neorealist films
conventions of Italian neorealist films
neorealist films are known for the use of more realistic aspects of society in their films such as
filming on set
using unprofessional actors
focuses on the poor and working class
representing the hardships of the Italian economy, oppression and injustice on the lower class
Bicycle thief
considered to be one of the best neorealist films of all time the bicycle thief was a revolutionary neorealist Italian film from the 1940's that shows the story of a man trying to find his stolen bike because he needs it for his new job, this film uses the regular conventions of Italian neorealist by filming on set, using unprofessional actors and focusing on the working class family the father is trying to provide for, it also ends with a harsh reality that neorealist films often provide, as the father never finds the bike and leaves the audience with the knowledge that his family might not survive. i considered this movie to be a interesting and even moving film, even though it can be slow at times and focuses on injustices and poverty that is un-relatable .
